The long leave from the office of fire chief James Sales has been a mystery. Chief Sales began his leave — which is not the same as a medical leave — on May 27. The leave is set to end September 27 and given its length many people are watching to see if Mr. Sales returns to work. He has been drawing his salary of more than $222,000 a year during this period.
