Hutchison, Matheson, Joshi, Kennedy let go at Bell Media

James Bradshaw,  the Globe and Mail’s media reporter, is tweeting Wednesday morning that many familiar faces from CTV Toronto are now gone, caught in the mega-media layoffs out of Bell Canada HQ. They are Suneel Joshi, Dan Matheson, Bill Hutchison and Tom Kennedy. There are expectations that more names will surface in the coming hours.

Supposition

Such cutbacks raise the speculation once again that any capable president might have already done the cost-benefit analysis of folding CTV News Toronto into Bell’s all-news service CP24. There is no basis for such a guess except that Bell management would have to be slower than a rotary-dial cradle phone not to have pondered such an economy. The government would kick and scream and deny permission but then, Bell Canada does not fear the CRTC.

  1. Good luck to Suneel Joshi a great on air personality. Several years ago we spent a few days at The Brier’s Resort with Suneel and his lovely wife. Nicer people you could not meet. I wish you well my friend.

  2. And now they gave Andrea Case on the nightly news. She is the worst of the bunch at CFTO.
Now they are scraping the bottom of the barrel.
They should have sacked her and Tom the weather man. He’s not even a meteorologist.
Global news looks better all the time.

  3. Dan Matheson was one of the best…..solid, reliable, viewer friendly……so were the other 3. What were you thinking? Oh yes, profits of course….. Bell you lost me as a customer…

  4. This is awful news Bill Hutchison was one of your Best! Your loss Bell! That goes for the rest as well shame on you!!
