6 South Bayview MPs to join new Justin Trudeau majority

Winners Oliphant, Mendicino, Freeland, Bennett, Morneau, Dabrusin

In South Bayview, the Liberal Party won every seat in the area. Liberal challenger Rob Oliphant defeated incumbent John Carmichael by a handy measure, 27,410 to 19,206.  In Eglinton Lawrence, Marco Mendicino defeated Finance Minister Joe Oliver by 27,494 votes to 21,601. In University Rosedale, the new riding which includes Moore Park, Chrystia Freeland won an easier than anticipated victory over NDP challenger Jennifer Hollett. The Conservative Karim Jivraj polled respectably. It was Liberals 27,806, NDP 15,969 and CP 9,798. In Toronto Centre Bill Morneau, tapped as the new finance minister, easily defeated NDP firebrand Linda McQuaig, 29,090 to 13,382.  Toronto  Danforth saw a very close race in which the Liberal, Julie Dabrusin, edged out the NDP candidate Craig Scott in that traditional NDP area. The votes were 23,531 to 22,261. In St. Paul’s Carolyn Bennett was easily re-elected to her seventh term as the Liberal MP for that riding.
