Man dead, 3 injured as cement truck hits SUV

A horrifying fatal accident in which an SUV was rear-ended was witnessed by a man out campaigning for re-election this month. Jess Prothero says he heard a cement truck ram into the passenger vehicle as it slowed to turn left into a driveway of a retail farm store. It is a classic situation in which an expected turn (into a driveway) catches a driver (in the cement truck) unawares. A man in the SUV is dead, a woman who is six month pregnant is at St. Michael’s Hospital and a 6-year-old girl is at the Hospital for Sick Children with serious head injuries. A woman, 50, is also in a local hospital. It happened on Tottenham Road south of the Town of New Tecumseth. The Mississauga News quotes Prothero:  He said there were four people in the vehicle — two women, a man and a young girl. After the crash, Prothero said he and another bystander pulled the child from the car and the other man performed CPR on her. “We got her breathing again, but she’s not in good shape,” Prothero said. Just before EMS arrived at scene, he said they also pulled the man, who was unresponsive, from the vehicle. Police say the cement truck driver, a woman, received minor injuries.
